Darker, Grittier, Spikier (But Also With DINOSAURS!)

I'm behind on EVERYTHING lately. I just realized I never posted the full-length trailer for Doctor Who, Series 8! Let me just fix that now -

I'm intrigued at the new direction the show is going. Doctor Who is probably the only show (that I'm aware of, at least) that you can make such a huge tonal shift and the audience continues to accept it. When Peter Capaldi was first announced, we all knew (theoretically) that he was going to be so different from Matt Smith. And I think we got a good glimpse of that in this trailer. Certainly, he's going to have some goofball moments (what Doctor doesn't?) but I think I'm going to enjoy this slightly darker, spikier Doctor that they're showing us here. And it'll be interesting to see Clara's initial uncertainty about this new Doctor and then slowly accept him as her best friend (we all know that's going to happen at some point - it's how that will happen that is going to be fun to see).

(Also - a T-Rex in London!)

Still excited for Series 8! Eagerly counting down the days to August 23!

Christmas is Coming!

Okay, we'll just say I took December off (hey, 2013 was a busy year and I needed a break!)  But I didn't want Christmas to go unnoticed, so have some Muppet shenanigans for this lovely holiday week -

I will be back later this week with thoughts (and tears) on "The Time of the Doctor," so fret not on that score - and here I realize I never posted the trailer (ugh - December. Blah), so have it now -

Okay FINE! There's this thing too -

I'M NOT READY, DAMMIT! *sobs*

Anyway - I do have some things in store for the new year, Who-related and otherwise, so keep watching this space. In the meantime, have a safe and happy Christmas!

(please don't go matt...)

As if THAT Wasn't Enough...

... here's the trailer for An Adventure in Space and Time!

BBC, if you keep doing this to me, I won't be conscious for the 50th Anniversary!

Trailer Alert! Trailer Alert! This Is Not A Drill!!

Shout it high to the heavens, my friends! The endless kvetching can now finally cease. For, my dear fellow Whovians - WE HAVE A TRAILER!!

BEHOLD -

Here are my initial impressions -

- Ten and Eleven comparing everything from sonics to brainy specs to TARDIS interiors.  And, further proving that you cannot have a Doctor Who anniversary special with the line about redecorating anything. I think that's when the DayQuil finally kicked in because I started bouncing up and down and fangirl-flailing all over the place (silently, because I was in the break room at work watching on my iPhone).  I love how that is a distinctive Patrick Troughton line and pays homage to his performance, but David Tennant makes it his own moment for his Doctor. And Matt Smith's reaction - beautiful!

- It's not Handy!Doctor! Sing praises to Rassilon and Omega! (I had a... let's just say discussion with a 19-year-old girl I met a few weeks ago who was so thrilled that Rose and Handy were coming back and I had to vehemently disagree with her and she didn't like that very much. We did not leave on pleasant terms).

- I'm not sure what to make of Rose's crypticness and all-knowing whatchamawhozits.  I don't think this is Series 2 Rose, neither do I think it's Alt!Universe Rose. I wonder if it's the TARDIS doing a "Bad Wolf" projection at the last minute and that's what we got? I dunno - but it makes me excited!

- We got the Doctors being funny and lighthearted - but I love, love, love, LOVE the darkness there at the end. I don't think any multi-Doctor story has really dealt with the ramifications of meeting your future self and the bad things that could possibly happen form that.  It gave me chills and I love it!

That's just a few of my initial thoughts. I gotta go watch it on loop about fifty more times before I'm completely satisfied.

ETA: BBC America has a version that puts the trailer with the version of the theme from the cameo-licious 50th Anniversary teaser trailer. I'm sort of hoping they use that theme tune in the opening credits of the actual special (pretty please?? I've been ever-so-good).

Who's Waldo - or Where's Doctor - Oh, You Know What I Mean!

Well, folks, we're in the homestretch regarding Doctor Who 50th Anniversary celebrations (Librarian in the TARDIS is no exception - two more reviews to go!)  As such, the official promotions are ramping up.  Feast your eyes on the latest tribute trailer (which may end up being a teaser for "The Day of the Doctor) -

Plenty of fannish eye-candy as well as some vocal cameos (I caught both Peter Davison and Paul McGann's voices echoing Matt Smith's in a few places).  And if you're like me and want to pick out all the little treats hiding in this quick 1-minute trailer, Kasterborous has a fantastic shot-by-shot photo gallery on their Facebook page that you can pour over to your heart's content.

(Also - I'm kind of hoping we get this version of the theme on a soundtrack at the very least. It's probably too much to hope that it'll be in the actual special, but I actually love it).

Doctor Who Premieres on September 1!

Yes, I've been off the radar for a while (bloggy-wise, anyway).  Found myself in need of a new place to live and it took a few weeks to find one, but I found one and I'll be moving this weekend.  Which brings me to...

"Doctor Who" Returns on September 1!! HOORAY!!!

Since I left my BBC America subscription back with my parents (well, it was their satellite TV account), I'm going the iTunes route this season.  This is the first time I've ever bought an iTunes season pass, though I like the idea of it.  I don't have to pay for channels I don't watch, I only get the shows I like and I finally have a way to monetarily support the programming I want instead of my money going to something stupid like "Two and a Half Men."  I haven't had a problem with iTunes before as far as getting content I'm subscribed to, so this should be fun.

Anyway - TRAILERS!

And this whole week leading up to the premiere, there's this web-only, prequel of sorts showing what the Doctor and la familia Pond have been up to during this obscenely long break. Presenting now, the first installment of "Pond Life."

I admit, when I heard about "Pond Life," I thought it was going to be more akin to the spoof-tastic sitcom idea from Blogtor Who - "Amy and Rory: The Ponds." Happily it is not.

The Abominable Snowman Meets the Wild Wild West

Today saw the brand new trailer for City Slickers Part 3 Doctor Who Series 7.  Let the rampant speculation begin!

This is serious. Who thought we'd see the day when the Doctor actually wished to face down Daleks?

I Honestly Have No Clue What is Going On Here

Which is also The Theme of Doctor Who Series 6!

Here is another (albeit shorter) trailer for the second half of series 6. It goes without saying that there are spoilers here - but I really have no clue what any of this points to or what's even going to happen, so if you can divine anything substantial from this :40 second clip, you have greater powers of deduction than I.

But the music is pretty cool, I have to say:
